WHAT TO DO DURING A HURRICANE

  • Listen to NOAA Weather Radio for up-to-date storm information.
  • Stay indoors, on a middle level of your home, away from windows.
  • Be on alert for tornadoes, which can occur both during a hurricane and after it passes over.  Remain indoors, in the center of your home, away from windows and glass.
  • Remember that the eye of the hurricane is very deceptive, and extremely dangerous.  The storm is not over when they eye passes overhead, despite the calm conditions.  The worst part of the storm is right after the eye passes, as the winds are blowing from the opposite direction.  Trees, shrubs, buildings and other objects damaged by the first winds can be broken or destroyed by the second winds.
